I grew up in Bury attending St. Gabriels R.C. High School and Holy Cross College.  As a teenager I worked at Gigg Lane serving hot drinks and food to what seemed to be an endless queue of disappointed fans!   At Loughborough University I studied Politics with Economics and specialised in political theory.

Despite a passion for politics, football and music (I worked at the imaginatively titled ‘Left-Legged Pineapple’ record shop as a student), I became an accountant with Asda, later working with organisations like the Co-op and TUI Travel.  My work has taken me around the world and I feel privileged to have worked with many people from different cultures.

I voted for the first time in 1997 for the Labour Party – excited to be part of a changing Britain.  My Labour values are rooted in compassion, fairness, equality and collaboration.  I am a proud feminist and co-ordinate the Bury South Labour Women’s Forum.  We are a campaigning group that works to publicise women’s issues and drive change, and also has the objective to encourage more women into roles in public life.

As well as being a Besses’ Councillor, I am very proud of my position as Chair of Governors at Whitefield Community Primary School and Head of the Audit Committee for Bury Council.  In the 5 minutes a day I have spare after working full time I support MCFC, enjoy country walks, listen to lots of records and fight a losing battle with clutter in my home.
