There will soon be a dedicated police team located in Prestwich Library.

Eamonn O’Brien, Labour’s election candidate for St.Mary’s ward, has welcomed this news, which was announced by the police at last night’s St.Mary’s PACT meeting (Police and Communities Together).

Eamonn says: ‘I go to these meetings regularly, and know how important a visible police presence is to deterring crime in this area. Our officers already work hard in Prestwich, but have been working out of Whitefield Police Station for some time. Having our own neighbourhood policing team back in Prestwich and operating from the Library is an important step forward, which will make a big difference.’

Councillor Jane Black added ‘We now also have a yellow phone on the outside wall of the Library, something which we raised with the police when we met them last year. This direct hotline can be used by residents and businesses to report any incidents or concerns. Our local police team do a great job, and can be reached on 856 8204.’

Other numbers: 999 for emergencies and 101 for non emergency matters.
