M60 Junction 8 to M62 Junction 20 – Smart Motorway Scheme
Major improvements are about to happen to the M60 in this area.
Smart motorways use innovative technology to manage traffic, helping you to make your journey more reliable. Using variable speed limits, traffic detection loops in the road, overhead signs and CCTV helps to tackle congestion and supports the economy in this area.
This is great news for the North West. The M60 between Junction 8 and Junction 20 of the M62 is one of the busiest sections of motorway in the UK.
This is a major improvement scheme and there is going to be a period of disruption while this work is undertaken.
From this summer onwards you will see road works and traffic management on sections of the motorway while this work is undertaken. We can only carry out some work at night and we realise that this might disrupt those living close to the scheme.
There will be temporary speed limits enforced by average speed cameras, narrow lanes, lane closures, full motorway closures and diversions. Drivers should plan ahead for their journeys and keep up to date with latest progress on the scheme.
The scheme website will be regularly updated. You can sign up to get email alerts for updates at www.highways.gov.uk/roads/road-projects/M60-Junction-8-to-M62-Junction-20
