Bury South’s Ivan Lewis MP appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
Ivan Lewis has been appointed as Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in Labour Leader Ed Miliband’s latest reshuffle.
Ivan moves from being Shadow Secretary for International Development and commented as follows:-
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Shadow Development Secretary. Labour’s legacy on international development is unparalleled and I am proud that we have continued to lead the way from opposition setting out a radical vision for a Post-2015 development framework and building political support for the UK’s development commitment.
I would like to thank my impressive team Rushanara Ali MP, Tony Cunningham MP, Lord Ray Collins and Lucy Powell MP for all their dedication and hard work and all of the individuals and organisation who contributed their time and expertise to shaping our international development thinking.
I now look forward to taking my energy and passion into my new role as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary. Northern Ireland matters to the Labour Party. We’re proud of the contribution we made to building peace and will continue to play a leading role in helping Northern Ireland on its journey to peace, progress and prosperity. This is an important role for a very important place.
I hope to continue the great work done by Vernon Coaker MP working across the political spectrum and actively engaging with people on the ground and in communities throughout Northern Ireland. I look forward to my first visit to Northern Ireland next weekend.”
