Work is well underway to the renovate Elmhurst Respite Care Centre, in a move designed to transform it into one of the premier Respite Care Centres in the North West.
Ivan Lewis visited the site today, which is on Whalley Road, Unsworth, to look at the progress made on the development.
A total £1.6m is being spent to include the following:-
* Create more space and comfort for residents increasing room sizes and providing en suite facilities .
* Create a bistro and hairdressing salon, for use by residents, their family and carers
* Install a multi media room where residents can relax by watching films or listen to music
* Ensure that the building is equipped with the latest eco friendly techology such as solar panels
Elmhurst will provide 27 rooms for elderly clients and a further 4 rooms for those with learning disabilities.
Bury South Labour MP Ivan Lewis said “I was very impressed by what I saw. At a time of deep Government cuts which means Bury Council will lose 50% of its budget, for it to invest money in a project that will support vulnerable people and their carers is amazing. Bury’s Labour Council has shown real leadership and this development will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the local community. I am also delighted that a local firm of builders, F Parkinson Limited are carrying out the renovation works which is helping boost the local economy. I am looking forward to visiting Elmhurst when the building work is complete. ”
Radcliffe West Councillor Rishi Shori, Bury Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care said “Respite Care is vital to helping sustain carers, and enabling people to remain in their own homes for longer. Elmhurst promises to be a vital part of the Council’s overall strategy to help people maintain their independence and is something of which we can all be proud.”
The renovation project is due to be completed in early 2014.
